This month I’m excited to have a bonus tip from CRO copywriter Joanna Wiebe of Copy Hackers. If you have not read the Copy Hackers blog, you’re missing out. Truly.

Now that that’s out of the way let’s get to those daily blog post ideas for September. Fall is here, and it’s time to school your blog.

***

– Notice the way I used the word “school” in the sentence above as a verb. That’s not something your English teacher would approve of, but it sure is fun to use slang. Take a trip over to Urban Dictionary and come up with blog post ideas based on slang terms (that are not totally unprofessional).

– September 2nd is Labor Day in the United States. Take a break from writing. Post a picture instead.

BONUS BLOGGING TIP!

“Keep an eye on your analytics. When you’re creating content, it’s easy to let yourself write about any old topic and then go see what keyword phrase to associate with it, but we’ve found a reliable way to select topics that people will care about is to go into Google Analytics and see which of our posts are bringing in the most traffic. For example, we get TONS of visitors to our old post on writing App Store descriptions, so we’re currently interviewing app creators for a new post on promoting your app.”   — Joanna Wiebe of Copy Hackers

– Did you take a vacation this summer? Write about your time off. Tie it together with an insight into your business.

– It’s Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month, National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, National Cholesterol Education Month, Reye’s Syndrome Awareness Month, and Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month. Pick one and talk about its importance.

– Back-to-school season is here. How are you starting fresh?

– Let’s get deep. What was one of the most trying times in your business life? Ask your readers to grab a tissue.

– Make a top 10 list of your favorite apps.

– Grandparents’ Day is this month. Show your appreciation.

– Try a new product and tell the world what you think. Tomoson.com is a good product review site to consider.

– What happened this week in history?

– Create a recurring theme for your blog. Try something like “Quick Friday Facts” or “Visual Distraction Tuesdays.”

– Partner with a colleague (outside your own business) to create a kickin’ piece of content. Promote the content together, just like Anna Schmohe and I did last fall when we made The Pledge to Spare the Web from Haphazard Copy and Design.

– Browse PRNewswire.com. Find a news announcement relevant to your readers. Publish segments of it with your commentary.

– How do you de-stress during the work day?

– Write a two-sentence blog post about the single most important idea in your business.

– In February I told you to go for a walk. Do it again, but this time, pick a color and follow it. They call it “Color Walking,” and fall is the perfect time to color walk.

– Thank a teacher on your blog and on this incredible site: Thanks for Teaching Us.

– Write a profile piece on your office plants.

– Re-blog another post. Tumblr and WordPress.com make it easy, but there’s no reason you can’t re-blog on any blogging platform.

– Let’s have a debate. Write a two-part post looking at two sides of the same issue. You could write both angles, or you could have two people in the office take on the discussion.

– Are you hiring? Do you know of someone who is hiring? Post it.

– September 22nd is the Autumnal Equinox, which means equal amount of daylight and darkness over the equator.

– Visit your local library. Libraries often hold events including book readings and business seminars. Ask your librarian to show you how to research the archives to find historical information about your town, industry, or business. Get lost in the stacks. Browse titles and look for a book that inspires you.

– Do you have a new favorite television show this fall? Talk about your interest in the story line. Tie it into your business if you can or just indulge in a personal post.

– What new announcements can you make with the new season? Make a point to create business news regularly.

– Write a Google Poem.

– The fourth Friday in September is considered Native American Day in many states.

– Seen a piece of advertising lately that struck you? Embed the video or share the image with your thoughts.

– Feature one of your products or services that you think should be more popular than it is.

– The U.S. Government’s 4th Quarter ends on September 30th and marks the end of the fiscal year. For those operating on a calendar fiscal year, September 30th marks the end of the 3rd quarter.
