BONUS TIP!

Amy Schmittauer (pictured here) of Savvy Sexy Social and Vlog Boss Studios looks at the calendar to get her blog post ideas. Here’s what she has to say:

“I’m often inspired by my calendar. With seasons, holidays, current events, conferences, or just anything, I can usually come up with a new piece of content that connects with everyday life. Just writing down those keywords will help me come up with a way to tie my content to relateable subjects.”

– Make a Pinnable image. Here’s how.

– Fill in the blank: It’s like sunblock for your ___________. (Thanks to Amy Schmittauer who gave this tip in one of her recent blog posts.)

– If you had to do it all over again, what would you say in your very first blog post?

– Treat your blog like a portfolio. Talk about a project you just finished up.

– Gather baby pictures of everyone in the office. Have readers guess who is who or come up with creative content to highlight everyone’s strong suits.

– Crowdsource a blog post. Ask a question on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media spaces. Take the responses and turn it into a blog post. Extend the conversation on your blog.

– Try the Portent’s Content Idea Generator.

– Do volunteer work with your co-workers, family, or friends. Share pictures.

– Think about the last time you were criticized on the blog or face-to-face. Take the opportunity to defend yourself and/or talk about how you will improve your work based on that criticism.

– Describe the anatomy of an inanimate object (e.g., the anatomy of a newsletter article or the anatomy of a successful startup).

– Analyze some of your company data and create a chart or graph.

– Try a new app or tool for your business and write a review.

– Make a video on Animoto. It’s super easy.

– Write a guest post for a blog outside your industry on a topic that may not fit your own blog.

– Visit the Google AdWords Keyword Tool and enter search terms relevant to your business. Look for interesting long-tail keyword phrases that you can write about.

– Get down to the facts. Give us the stats about your city, solar energy, cupcakes, or anything else that deserves attention. A top ten list would work great here.

– Find a poem that inspires you. Post it with attribution.

– Take off early today and enjoy a couple cocktails on the patio. How does winding down make you better at work?

– Create a “101” series of blog posts. Explain the basics of your business.

– What is the authoritative industry association in your space? Stay on top of events, news, and reports that they announce and relay the news on your blog.

– Take a shot at writing your own over-the-top “Onion” article. Here’s a recent article you could mimic. Just be sure to tell your readers it’s a joke.

– Host a webinar. Teach something.

– Write a love letter to your customers.

– Publish your blogging goals. You may be more motivated to achieve them this way.

– Create a 10-page guide highlighting one of the most challenging issues your customers face. Then write a blog post announcing the publication and featuring the most important pieces of the guide.

– Enter your company to win an award. Or create your own award, and use your blog to promote it.

– Sign up on UserTesting.com. Talk about lessons learned.
